In rare a moment of clarity, I’m suppose to photograph with a 35mm camera and print at 8x10 on silver gelatin. If I need to go larger, I’ll outsource to a lab.
The framework for printing well is simple: carry a great lens, use an incident light meter, and mix fresh developer.
I take art and try to communicate it to an audience not as interested in it, and then I turn to art and look for where it’s willing to engage with a non-art audience. Where the two overlap is where I want to be.
I see where people experience art themes without knowing so, and I see where art has missed bringing people in, but when the two overlap, it’s transformative.
Someone once asked me if I would agree that Walker Evans was one of the greatest American photographers, and I thought for a second and said, well, he wasn’t the worst.
