Artist Statement: The Sandbox and the Worn Boots

Photography is not an argument, and it is not an answer. It is a sandbox—a place to play, experiment, think, grow, and learn.

I never want this work to be a divisive space that pits people against one another. I have no interest in claiming that I am right, that I know all the answers, or that I am highly skilled at anything. I photograph simply because I love it, and because I love cameras and the process of photography itself.

If there is an ambition here, it is modest: to make something enjoyable, to challenge assumptions quietly, and to advocate for creativity as a way of living. I hope to move through this as a wondering soul wearing old, worn-out boots.

My primary language is photography. If something deeper about life and the world happens to surface, it is only because I wanted to talk about photography, and that deeper thought happened to be waiting there in the grain. I want to do more than just take pictures and write about photography, yet somehow I also want to do less than write and talk about it—to let the work simply exist.

There have been wins and losses along the way, but the goal is simple contentment with what is on hand. There will always be people ahead and people behind. The only real work is to stop worrying, express what you came here to say, and then get to it.
