Sinar F2
A ground glass will have missing corners so you can see if the lens is projecting from edge to edge. If you can see the lens, it’s giving full coverage.
The modular Sinar F2 is a great camera. It’s flexible behind wide lenses — an advantage over folding cameras. It’s a little bulky and tough to carry but has excellent sideway movements and a sturdy build quality. I’ve had this one since 2010.
This camera is great for me because I’m interested in architecture, landscapes, and all things photography.
With a big ridiculous tripod and a funny looking lens, a large format camera puts people at ease.
The fastest way to make interesting photographs is to point the camera at something interesting. A 35mm equivalent lens helps us see what we’re seeing. I’m looking forward to attaching a 105mm lens to my Sinar, and if all goes well, I’ll consider adding a 210mm to the 8x10 rig.
Medium format digital has overtaken large format film in recent years. Aside from film’s physical nature, medium format digital gives us faster and more faithful images. Large format monochrome is a recreational choice. Plus with advancements in inkjet printing, color analog is mostly obsolete.
The future of large format monochrome belongs in the hands of hobbyists and enthusiasts. These enthusiets will continue to make, show, and build communities.
