Virtual Movements

With enough resolution, we can crop in, move a frame around, and simulate a view camera’s movements in post, including rise, fall, and shift.

Attach a 35mm-equivalent lens to a high-resolution camera fixed to a level tripod. Take a straightforward picture. In Lightroom, select a 4:3 aspect ratio and make a vertical crop (centered, top to bottom), then press X to rotate the adjustment box. Now we have a 50mm crop to move around, similar to how we would compose with a standard lens on a view camera.
