You aren’t fighting the medium; you’re using it to get out of the way of the subject. The real estate of the sheet gives you an unvarnished record of the environment, where the transitions between tones are deadpan, linear, and completely smooth because you aren't trying to enlarge a tiny frame past its breaking point.
The real utility, though, is that it frees you from the commercial lab bottleneck entirely. You can bring it all in-house with a simple daylight tank and a bottle of developer. Because you’re handling individual sheets instead of being locked into a 12- or 36-exposure roll, the control returns to the front end. If you intersect with a harsh, high-contrast industrial structure, you can expose for the deep shadows and pull the development time for that specific sheet to hold the highlights back. Every frame gets exactly what it requires. It reduces the entire process down to a straightforward, self-contained workflow—just the physical reality of the architecture, the incident light, and a piece of silver halide doing exactly what you ask it to do.
